HIRTA Maintenance Facility

HIRTA is the only public transit system in Iowa without a facility of our own. That makes it harder to maintain our fleet, support our staff, and keep service reliable. Right now, we pay full commercial rates for maintenance, which is a big strain on our limited rural funding. To fix this, we’re planning to build a centrally located facility that will improve operations and help us grow sustainably.

The new facility will sit on a 3-acre site in Boone and includes indoor space to park transit vehicles, perform light vehicle maintenance, and provide driver facilities. As part of this project, and to meet federal requirements, we’ve done a Title VI equity analysis to make sure the site was chosen fairly.
