HIRTA's New Facility Project

HIRTA is the only public transit system in Iowa without a facility of our own. That makes it harder to maintain our fleet, support our staff, and keep service reliable. Right now, we pay full commercial rates for maintenance, which is a big strain on our limited rural funding. To fix this, we’re planning to build a centrally located facility that will improve operations and help us grow sustainably.

The new facility will sit on a 5-acre site and include space for vehicle maintenance, indoor storage, offices, training, and staff needs. It will support 22 employees and include features like a secure lobby, meeting rooms, break areas, and ADA-compliant restrooms.

As part of this project, and to meet federal requirements, we’ve done a Title VI equity analysis to make sure the site was chosen fairly. You can view the Draft Equity Analysis below.
